🌿 Outside Guides (Local Leadership Roles)

Lead Outings. Build Connections. Support Your Community.

Outside Guides are volunteer community leaders who help families connect to nature through outdoor experiences and engagement, whether leading outings or supporting a local Community Hub. Your role as an Outside Guide helps families feel welcomed, included, and inspired to explore the outdoors.

💡 You don’t need to be a member yet to sign up to volunteer—but access to training and event tools requires a free OutGrown membership.


Outside Guide – Outings Leader

Host events & bring families together.

  • Lead family-friendly outdoor outings in your community.
  • Ensure outings are added to the OutGrown Community Calendar so families can easily find and join them.
  • Create welcoming, connected spaces for families of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Time commitment: Flexible—you decide how often you lead.
  • Training: A quick, free training will equip you with everything you need (membership required for access).

Outside Guide – Community Hub Moderator

Support & grow your local OutGrown Community.

  • Moderate and facilitate discussions in your local or interest-based Community Hub.
  • Ensure outings are regularly posted to the calendar and that local members stay engaged.
  • Provide support and guidance to other Outside Guides in your area.
  • Work closely with OutGrown staff to strengthen your community's presence.
  • Time commitment: Moderate—ideal for those who want to take on a leadership role.
  • Training: Additional leadership training is available to support you in this role (membership is required for access).

Yes! Many Outside Guides lead outings and help manage their Community Hub to create a strong, connected local community.

National Volunteers

Support OutGrown from anywhere. Share your skills. Make an impact.

National volunteers help OutGrown grow its reach and impact by working on special projects, strategic initiatives, and behind-the-scenes efforts that strengthen our mission. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your skills without leading outings.

Ways National Volunteers Support OutGrown:

  • Program Expansion – Help bring OutGrown’s programs to new communities.
  • Communications & Outreach – Support marketing, blog writing, or social media efforts.
  • Local Partnerships – Connect with local businesses and community organizations.
  • Member Support – Help welcome new members and provide guidance.
  • Finance & Development – Assist with fundraising, grant research, or join the finance committee.
  • Gratitude & Engagement – Write thank-you notes and help recognize volunteers and donors.
