The Bring it Outside (BiO) program offers simple, low-barrier, positive opportunities for families to engage in early childhood development outdoors and strengthen the connection between caregivers and their children ages 0-5. It focuses on repairing and reintroducing positive relationships with nature that many under-resourced families find severed. BiO curriculum modules explore the basics of getting outside with little ones, support caregivers in learning and practicing the early childhood developmental benefits of spending time in nature, and introduce environmental awareness and stewardship for families. Activities are designed to be authentically inclusive and accessible, serving families from diverse backgrounds and abilities. The program relies on training volunteer facilitators like caregivers and community leaders to engage with families, host workshops and outings, and help participants build healthy habits in the outdoors.
The Bring it Outside program is a national program that has actively worked with rural, Latine, immigrant, and refugee communities and BIPOC families. It has been offered in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Dari. The program is customizable and tailored to specific community members' needs, such as refugee new arrival families and under-resourced rural communities, with many opportunities for local, regional, and national partnerships for future growth. We work with community organizations, land managers, and early childhood support services to train their staff and volunteers to facilitate BiO programming at a local level.
In its first three years, the Bring It Outside program has served over
2,000 families across ten communities
