1. PLACES / WYANDOTTE COUNTY LAKE PARK WHITE TAIL LOOP
Wyandotte County Lake Park is a 1,500-acre city park that has a variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Activities range from fishing, kayaking, picnicking, hiking and mountain biking. The White Tail Loop trail is 3.5 miles but there’s very little elevation gain. It’s a moderately trafficked trail shared between walkers, hikers and mountain bikers. Because mountain bikers share the trail, be alert around corners and step aside to let them pass first. Dogs are allowed on the trail, although you need to keep them on a  leash at all times. Follow the correct colored blaze as there are multiple trails that intersect in the area. Carry bug spray in the summer as there are lots of mosquitoes and ticks on the trail.

Helpful Trail Information

Bike Trails, Fishing, Lake, Picnic Area, Playground, Shaded Hike, and Shelter The trail passes near a cove, where you can often see geese swimming nearby. It also comes out near a picnic shelter, which is a great place for a snack if the area is available. If the kiddos aren’t too tired after the hike, you can take them to the large playground near the entrance as a reward for heir hard work on the trail.

Parking Details

The trail parking lot is at Shelter 9. The shelters are spread out pretty far apart, so if you enter from the main gate, make a right at the fork and look for the sign to Shelter 9 on your left.
