1. PLACES / TWANOH STATE PARK
Twanoh State Park is a picturesque park located on the Hood Canal.  This park has enough area to spend an entire day at – besides the trail, there’s also a beautiful beach and creek.  Sea life is abundant at low tide and it’s a great place to catch salmon spawning in the fall.  This is 2.3 miles with 1/2 uphill and 1/2 downhill, so even though it is family paced, a carrier will probably be needed for toddler legs to rest. The trail takes you up the hillside along the creek with plenty of large trees and wild rhododendrons to admire along the way.  Once at the top, our group likes to play in the grassy open field, otherwise known as the “group camp.”  There is a steep trail back down, or we usually just take the service road on the way down.  According to WTA, the trail “offers a variety of gentle forested walks alongside or near babbling Twanoh Creek. Along the way, numerous benches offer ample opportunity to rest or simply sit and enjoy the forest; mileage markers will help you keep track of your distance.”  After hiking, cross the highway (there are marked crosswalks) to explore the beach and play on the small playground.
