1. PLACES / THE JUNGLE TRAIL
The Jungle Trail is a new trail to the Corner Canyon Trail System in Draper. It was designed for young kids and toddlers (it says so on the sign!) and is really fantastic; chocked full of tree forts, stumps to jump over, branches to duck beneath, and it even has a tire swing. This is a great trail to hike to and just stay and play for a while. The area near the tire swing is wide and there is room for some play without blocking the trail. The trailhead starts at the Carolina Hills Trailhead, which is where multiple trails start from. To get to the Jungle Trail, you hike along the trail that extends just to the right of the main sign, The Equestrian Center Trail, and continue for about 0.4 miles. The Jungle Trail will be clearly marked on your right after you pass a holding pond for the watershed. From there the whole trail is in the shade and it’s really a treat. There are many stumps to jump on and the City of Draper built multiple tree forts with fallen branches. There are twisted trees and big branches across the trail, so expect to duck and climb over plenty. The Jungle Trail itself is probably only a quarter of a mile long. Once you reach the designated end, marked by a post and lintel that you have to duck under, you can continue back toward the parking lot in a big loop (it’s about a mile total). It’s not clearly marked how to get back though, and we made a wrong turn at one point. So I would recommend making the trail an out-and-back adventure and go back the way you came. Dogs are welcome on a leash only. There are mountain bike trails that start from the Carolina Hills Trailhead, but bicycles are not allowed on the Jungle Trail. There are many signs posted warning of Poison Ivy, please be cautious and stay on the trails. There is a creek that runs along part of the trail, but it is a watershed and there is fencing to prevent hikers from walking or playing in the water.
