1. PLACES / SCHEIDEGGER FOREST
Scheidegger Forest is nearly 80 acres and offers a mile of loop of hiking trails, a reservable shelter, and restroom. The area has been restored from a former Dane County Sheriff shooting range to a managed forest of primarily oak and hickory. The shelter, kiosk, and bathroom were all built from wood harvested on-site.  Water is not available at this site. The forest offers two loop trails. From the main trail head going up the small incline, you can take trail to the left for a lollipop loop or go to the right to make a larger loop back to the parking lot. There is some gentle incline on the trail, but nothing that is too strenuous for children. The forest offers a picnic shelter, group campsite and vault restrooms. There is a small board walk at the end of the larger loop trail. This park has easy short trails that are great for children to explore. The trail is dirt/grass and not stroller friendly, a carrier is recommended.
