Rocky Mouth Falls

Rocky Mouth Falls is a short climb to a canyon you’d never even know was there because it’s hidden by a residential neighborhood. A small portion of the hike is on a residential street, then you enter a gate and climb steps and then a trail up unto the small canyon. It’s uphill the whole way, and a little steep, but you’re rewarded with a tall and skinny waterfall that varies in it’s intensity throughout the year. It’s loud and flowing in the spring, and it shrinks to a trickle in late summer and fall. There’s a little bit of open space to explore among trees and the water is crisp and can be very cold; lovely to play in on a hot day. The creek that flows below the falls is shallow and great for littles to splash around in. It’s a really beautiful escape when you didn’t have to hike very far to get there. The city of Sandy closes the gate for this trail in the winter at both the trailhead parking lot and where the trail leaves the residential street. The trail can get icy in the winter. The photos posted for this hike were taken in July of 2019 after we had a lot more rain and snow than usual, so the waterfall was flowing a ton and the creek was much wider than usual. We had to hike in the water close to the end. This waterfall usually slows to a little more than a trickle by August, but it will probably keep flowing strong all year.
