This is one of the best trails for kids in Red River Gorge! It is about a 1.5 mile loop with some elevation change. Start at the trail head away from the toilets, by the parking spaces. This will take you down towards the stream and waterfall. While heading down, you will come across a small side path that leads to a large overhang. Depending on the time of year, there maybe a very small waterfall dripping. Continue along the trail that is following a small creek. You will soon start to hear the waterfall. Once you see it, there are some rocks along the edge you can look over the waterfall. Be careful with kids here. Continue along the trail and there will be a small trail on the right that takes you to the waterfall overlook point. You can see the entire waterfall at this spot behind a wall barrier. Keep following the trail and you will see on the right where it’s low and close to the water way. In the summer, this is a great picnic spot and shallow enough to let the kids play in (night still be cold). You can cross the stream and hang out on the sandy part at the base of the waterfall. Be careful with small kids and anyone who can’t swim. The closer to the waterfall, it gets deep pretty quickly. Continue along the trail a short bit and you will see the Rock Bridge the trail is named after on the right going over the stream. This is the only arch in Red River Gorge that is a true bridge. You will see people climbing on the bridge, but the park rangers have asked people not too. From this point on, the trail starts heading back up hill. The toughest part is when the trail splits: left to continue along Rock Bridge Trail and straight to continue a long distance trail. This is the steep part of the trail. At the top of the steep part there is a place to sit and a nice overlook across the gorge. You won’t be too far from the cars (though with young kids it may feel like it). The trail will come out across the parking area from where you started, near the toilets. (Permanent pit toilets). There are a couple of picnic tables in the middle of the parking loop.
