Pumpkin Rock

There are multiple ways to access Pumpkin Rock, but the most kid-friendly path I found was starting at George Ingalls Equestrian Event Center. If you’re like me, and need to use the restroom before starting the trail, you may even want to park at near Pikes Peak Park. Many trails interconnect in this hilly area, so you have lots of options. The most direct trail begins at the beginning of the Equestrian Center parking lot, just after the Animal Control Shelter. Following this trail, you will come to a fork: head left to go over rolling hills towards Pumpkin Rock, or head right and see the metallic stallion statues first (the uphill is slightly more strenuous to reach the Rock from there). When leaving the Rock, you can go downhill to your left; this trail will lead you in a loop to see the statues as well. This hike has a lot of sun exposure, go early in the morning during the heat of summer. Also, beware of rattlesnakes, this is a very popular area for them with lots of rocks to hide under.
