1. PLACES / PERALTA TRAIL
Peralta trail is rated moderate and may be more appropriate for bigger kids or little ones being carried, however it does make for an interesting hike even if you don’t reach the end. The trail passes through a number of tree covered washes in the beginning and the elevation gain is mostly gradual, becoming steeper towards the top as you near the sandstone spires along the top of the ridge. There are lots of boulders along the way, which are great for older kids to climb on. As the trail continues to climb, look back at various points for always stunning views! The best view is from the top – and a popular spot for photos – with Weaver’s Needle rising from the canyon below. This a moderate, but stunning hike. It can be quite windy at the top so be prepared if hiking in colder weather. It is also a popular trail so keep in mind there may be a lot of other hikers on the trail as well.
