Otter Creek: Hike and Anita C. Leight Estuary Center

This is a hidden nature center and trail area just off Rte 40 and close to I-95. As it is very close to the CSX Rail line you may be startled while walking the grounds or throwing some rocks into Otter Creek. Park, and walk down towards the nature center….but then turn right and follow the “discovery trail” opening. Follow this trail straight and turn right at “Y” in path. About a 1/10th of a mile you’ll turn left to stay on the discovery trail section. There are a few signs scattered about highlighting flora. Follow this loop around (almost a complete circle) for 1/4 mile. When it intersects with another trail you’ll want to turn left again and will soon pop out into the Transmission line/grassy area. Follow the path (not grasses) back into the woods to complete another loop (white blazes) to climb uphill to purple blazes. Re-emerge from the woods and you’ll spend a few minutes walking back through the transmissions line area. There may be remnants of downed trees along this path as you make your way back to the parking area. It’s a straight shot with 2 picnic tables to enjoy lunch at.
