1. PLACES / OAKS BOTTOM WILDLIFE REFUGE
Looking for a family-friendly trail where city and nature meet? Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, tucked along the east bank of the Willamette River in Portland, offers a mix of paved and natural-surface paths that wind through wetlands, meadows, and woodlands. The 163-acre refuge is home to herons, eagles, turtles, and migrating waterfowl, making it an incredible spot for kids to explore and learn. Families can enjoy easy loop options, shaded trails, and wildlife viewing just minutes from downtown Portland. This trail guide entry was contributed through the support of our community partner, People of Color Outdoors (POCO), and funded by the Oregon Community Recovery Fund (OCRF).
