1. PLACES / MOUNT SEVERANCE
This is a 1.2 mike out and back trail (so 2.4 miles total) up Mount Severance in the Adirondack Mtns. The trail is very well marked and well traveled. Over the 1.2 mile ascent, you will gain 800′ of altitude. It is a gradual climb with some steeper parts along the way. There are also some large rocks at parts on the trail. The views from the top of the mountain are gorgeous, overlooking Schroon Lake from the main look out and Paradox Lake from the 2nd overlook (follow another trail about 150 ft from the first look out to get to the 2nd.) Adult legs can hike this trail quickly, but budget at least 3 hours if you’re hiking it with kids. If you’re hiking this trail during the early or mid spring, prepare for MUD and lots of it. Depending on the snow melt or heavy rains, the trail might not be ideal for hiking with kids. The trail is much more manageable during summer or fall.
