1. PLACES / LOWER MACLEAY
Lower Macleay is home to the first ever Hike it Baby hike, EVER! Really. This is the trail I took my son Mason on during his first few weeks of life and then on week 3, met a few women to hike at. Why this trail is a winner for Hike it Baby families is that it’s short, has a gradual climb, is well trafficked and in the middle of town. It’s a great trail for new parents who are nervous about getting out there with the baby. Another reason we love this trail is that it has all of the classic NW elements. Deep green moss on the trees, a creek running alongside it and it even has a fun “witches” castle in the middle of it. This is an old stone structure from the 50s that was reportedly once a bathroom and now an old house that parents like to tell stories about, creating a more magical hike.

Helpful Trail Information

Mud Puddles, Natural Play Area, Picnic Area, and Shelter This is a popular trail because in the middle of it there is the Witch’s Castle that’s fun for kids to play around and check out. This is an urban site, so be aware of broken glass and other things you might not want kids to play in. There are lots of fun bridges to cross, logs to climb around and stumps to sit and nurse on. This is a great beginner trail if you are just getting going and hiking.
