1. PLACES / HOYT PARK
Hoyt park is one of our favorite outdoor exploration areas on par with the local county parks, but you don’t have to pay to park! This little gem has typical park amenities like a playground structure, swings, grass field, and tables. It also has wonderful nature exploration areas like a seasonal creek, a big hill to climb up, lots of sticks and rocks on the ground to build with, and very kid friendly trails! One of the best parts about this park is that it is literally surrounded by huge trees, so no matter where the sun is you can always find plenty of shade. The park itself has plenty to keep kids of all ages busy for hours, but if they want to go for a hike too, you can find a flat, shaded trail that leaves from this park going both west and east on the other side of Avery Dr. Both trails are roughly half a mile long, so if you hike both of them you could complete a two mile hike. The only drawback to this park is there are no bathrooms, but there is a shopping center a block away south on Avery Dr. and in an emergency plenty of trees/bushes for kids to squat behind. The park and trails are dog friendly too!
