1. PLACES / EGUMEN LAKE TRAIL
Egumen Lake Trail is a short trail, with some boardwalk through a wet area. It has no gain or loss in elevation, and provides quick access to Egumen Lake. Prior to the construction of the paved portion of the Sterling Highway north of Skilak Lake Road, Egumen was the sixth lake on the Seven Lakes Trail. The trail originated at Engineer Lake. The trail to Peterson Lake is now overgrown. Rainbow trout are present in Egumen Lake. CAMPING: There are no established campsites. Any camping must be done ¼ mile from the Sterling Highway. Please use a backpacking stove to reduce impacts. OTHER ACTIVITIES: Look for loons, gulls, kingfishers, and beaver. Listen for sandhill cranes vocalizing during early morning and late evening hours, especially during late spring and early summer. This lake is seldom used by canoeists, but is a quick quarter mile portage from the parking area. WINTER ACTIVITIES: This trail is suitable for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
