This 1.5 mile looped trail is found in Palmer Park. This trail is very technical with stairs and lots of rocky areas. Strong hikers, or holding hands for new hikers, or carriers are recommended, as well as sturdy shoes. It is not ADA or stroller friendly. There are partially shaded areas, but mostly exposed, so be sure to bring layers and sun protection. This area is known for rattle snakes, so be aware. Leashed dogs are welcomed.
The trail begins near the parking lot, past the bathrooms, and you will go towards the right from the parking lot. You will then hike along the Templeton trail for a short time, be sure to stay to the right at the first “intersection”, and then left at the next “intersection” on the wide trail until you reach Edna Mae Bennett Nature trailhead. There will be a trail sign here. Here it is a loop and you may go to the left or right. I suggest going to the left as the elevation isn’t as steep, and there is a great snack break spot, where you can either go back, continue, or even connect onto the Templeton trail past the horse stables. From this connecting point the trail has a great amount of elevation gain, but once you are on the ridge it offers amazing views. There is a trail that veers to the left before you get to the ridge, stay straight/right here, there is no trail sign on the post. You will then hike along the ridge and then descend back to your starting point. Arrows will lead you on the right path.
