Churchville Nature Center Springhouse Hike

The Springhouse Trail has an out and back option that is stroller and wheelchair friendly or a loop option best suited for infants in carriers or children who can walk over some roots. The Springhouse Trail begins at the back of the Nature Center.  Follow the paved path around the right of the building, stay to the left at the fork and walk past the bird blind.  Continue to down the paved path with the meadow on your right.  When you come to the next fork stay to the left following the edge of the pond.  You may want to keep a close eye on small children as you follow the pond’s edge.  In the summer you can spot many turtles, frogs, and birds.  At the far end of the pond you come to the Springhouse on your left and the beginning of the boardwalk.  The boardwalk meanders through the forest to the reservoir.  This is a beautiful spot all year long!  At this point the boardwalk ends;  turn around and retrace your steps to make this an All Access trail. To make the Springhouse Trail a loop trail, continue on the dirt path to the left.  This part of the path can be muddy all year long and has many roots.  It winds along the edge of the reservoir for a little while before heading to the left and up a short hill.  Once at the top, the leaf strewn path curves to the left before straightening out.  Keep an eye out for the many deer that live in this section of the woods.  Continuing straight, you will eventually connect to the board walk near the Springhouse you passed on the way to the reservoir.  Make a right heading past the Springhouse and the pond to make your way back to the trail head.
