1. PLACES / CEDAR CREEK FALLS
Cedar Creek Falls is a 5.4 mile moderate to hard out and back single track trail that starts in Ramona. The highlight of this trail is the massive waterfall at the turn around point, so I recommend visiting in the spring after heavy rainfall for the best views of both the waterfall and the wildflowers. There are a few creek crossings that can be up to knee deep depending on water flow, so just be aware of that and bring extra shoes/socks/towels as needed. Like most waterfall hikes in San Diego, the first half of the hike is downhill and then the steep hike uphill is on your way home, so make sure you save plenty of water and it isn’t too hot for the hike back up to your car. There are bathrooms and tables at the trailhead. *Please note that you need a permit to hike this trail, which you can find out more about and reserve at www.recreation.gov. There is a ranger who sits at the trailhead and will not let you pass without a permit.
