Martin Luther King Junior Promenade

The Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade is a great little urban downtown walk where kids can both explore and learn about Black history. The path is paved so it is great for little feet, strollers, or any wheels. Along the path has different Martin Luther King Jr. quotes written on the ground. There is also an art exhibit called Breaking The Chains (https://www.publicartinpublicplaces.info/breaking-the-chains-1995-by-melvin-edwards). A train track runs right next to the path and trains go by often, which is always fun for the kids to watch go by. Along the path you will also pass a large fountain and pool, a wooded area, grass fields, a small playground and children’s garden, and at the north end there is a small labyrinth. This specific part of the path is about a half mile long, but it continues in both directions. If you want to make the adventure longer, you can cross Harbor Blvd. at Kettner Blvd, and head over to Seaport Village. The Convention Center, The New Children’s Museum, Gaslamp Quarter, Petco Park, and much more are all within walking distance as well. There are public bathrooms located south toward Petco Park, or north in Seaport Village.
