1. PLACES / BIG TREE TRAIL
Big Tree Trail features the largest tree in Kitsap County, along with an expansive old growth forest along the way.  This is a great trail that makes you feel like you are out in the Olympic Mountains, but is tucked just about 10 minutes past Bremerton. To get here, follow directions to the Kitsap Forest Theater and proceed following the signs.  At the trailhead, make your way down a relatively steep hillside with easy switchbacks.  Stop to admire the miniature “house” built into the hillside.  Once at the bottom, you will cross a small bridge over a creek (you can see salmon during spawning season here).  You will cross another hillside, head down into more forest, then eventually reach he big tree at the end.  There are a few spots along the trail to play next to the creek. Return on the same trail back. Next to the parking lot is a really cool wooden playground, complete with a wooden bridge and lookout towers.  In the summer, the Kitsap Forest Theater has outdoor plays on certain weekends and it’s a great destination for a family outing!
