Bayard Cutting Arboretum

This is a great place for families to hike all year round. There are many deviating trails, especially on the west side of the park but we usually stick to some version of a big loop. Starting at the starting point (gazebo at the south east corner of parking lot), head southwest past the Manor House and down the hill, turn left or otherwise you can snake through the gardens ahead of you have a carrier/all terrain stroller. Head south towards Breezy Island. Take a little detour across the bridge to check out the island and Tea House. When you cross back over the bridge, turn right and continue heading east along the Connetquot River. This path is gravel and best for an all terrain stroller or carrier. You will pass other paths on the left, which can all be explored but mostly head back towards the parking lot. You will pass many labeled trees, the most fun of which are the cypress trees and “knees” which make for a great natural playground. Round the corner of the peninsula, staying on the trail until the bridge for Paradise Island. This part has been mostly closed, so head to the left and pass the large compost piles for the organic farm up ahead. You will pass chickens and the amazing Dahlia Garden, best in late summer, early fall. Continue past the farm house and follow signs, essentially heading in the same direction, towards the parking lot. There are some more cool trees and beautiful gardens in spring through early fall. If you have time, check out the tree you can walk through (south west corner of the Manor House) or have a spot of tea or lunch in the Hidden Tea Room inside the Manor House. There are also some galleries inside worth a walk through. Many of the paths closer to the house are paved and wheelchair accessible but I would not recommend a wheelchair or regular stroller along the water as it is gravel and bumpy, with large puddles. There are bathrooms inside the Manor House and on the outside on the east side of the house. NOT OPEN ON MONDAYS. Open 10a-4p year round, until 5pm in summer.
