1. PLACES / AUDOBON SOCIETY
The Audubon Society of Portland’s 150-acre Nature Sanctuary is nestled against Forest Park, just five minutes from downtown Portland. This area is free to the public and a Hike it Baby favorite in Portland because it’s well maintained. The trails are excellent for little explorers. Parking is free and there is an adjacent overflow lot at Upper Macleay if it gets full. The Nature Center offers great opportunities for kids to learn about birds in the park. Also there’s a nice space to hang out inside if it gets rainy. Look for the shelter below on trail if you get caught outside in bad weather. Visit and enjoy the trails year-round, from dawn to dusk every day. No dogs are allowed on Portland Audubon’s sanctuaries trails so please leave your four legged friends at home.

Parking can get crowded at the Audubon so if you arrive and the lot is full, park just in the lot to the east. This is Upper Macleay parking lot and is a dirt parking lot with a short flat trail to the Audubon.
