1. PLACES / OAK CANYON NATURE CENTER
There are several trails that circle this park/nature center, so you’ll be able to combine them however you wish for hikes of different lengths. My personal favorite trail goes clockwise, starting on Roadrunner Ridge and returning along the Stream trail. There are several exhibits covering local history (such as silver mining) along the trail, as well as rock formations, oak woodlands, and a stream. Kids particularly enjoy the Stream trail with it’s bridges and several small statues to play on (snake, eggs). I don’t recommend using a stroller on the Roadrunner trail, but the Main Road is stroller friendly. If you wish to visit the John J. Collier Interpretive Center, it is open Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. During the week it serves as a preschool.
