How We Categorize Communities

At OutGrown, our Communities are built by and for families. While every Community is unique, we organize them based on geographic location and engagement status to help families find the right fit.

Here’s how we categorize them:

  • Open Community
These Communities are active and currently welcoming new families. They may host local outings, share events and resources, or have a community leader available for support and guidance. On the map, these are marked with a blue hiker icon.

  • Emerging or Reconnecting Community
These Communities may be in a quieter season, are seeking new leadership, or are just beginning to reconnect. You may still find local families nearby or a Facebook group in place, but organized outings may be limited. On the map, these are marked with a green hiker icon.

We organize Communities by state or province, and when applicable, group them into regions, such as the West or the Midwest. This helps families explore both local options and nearby opportunities to connect.
