1. PLACES / WEVERTON CLIFFS
This is a great try it out section of the AT suitable for good walkers and carriers. We’re talking toddlers with a view that is fairly short! Park in lot, and head down the road to the trail head (see infamous white AT Blaze!). Follow this uphill as it starts out in longer switchbacks but in general that’s all you’re doing this while hike. There’s lots of rocks and lots of leaves so watch for slippery days. Upon reaching the final climb to where there’s an AT North South sign, follow the blue blaze downhill to the stunning Weverton Cliff! This is where I share, hold onto those kiddos for the epic selfie or just lay back and watch the hawks. Better yet listen for the CSX Rail line as it turns into a silver snack slithering along the Shenandoah! Or, be like most and just climb around all those rocks shelves. To return, retrace your steps!
