1. PLACES / WASHINGTON ROCK STATE PARK
Washington Rock State Park is a great place to introduce hiking to a new walker or toddler! The park contains a short dirt trail (orange markers) through the woods that connects to a paved trail loop.   The dirt trail is approximately 0.25 miles long and the loop is approximately 0.3 miles.  The dirt trail has some slightly rocky areas Across the street from the trailhead, there is a picnic grove near the Washington Rock Monument and a beautiful viewpoint overlooking central NJ and the NYC skyline.

Picnic Area and Viewpoint The monument and viewpoint take you back in time to 1777. George Washington and his army used this viewpoint to discreetly observe the British troop movements in and around New York Harbor and central New Jersey.
