We have almost 8 miles of trails that wind through prairie and forest. They are flat and very hike-able by children and caregivers. Trails range from widely mowed grass trails to dirt & mulch trails. All trails are well maintained throughout the year. We have directional signage/wayfinding and trail markers located at all intersections. The main trailhead can be accessed at the main Nature Center parking lot. An interpretive sign and paper maps are available.
An additional trailhead is located north of the Nature Center in what we refer to as the remote lot. Once again, an interpretive sign, trail markers, and access to take along maps is available. Sugar Grove Nature Center is located in Funks Grove.
At 1,200 acres it is the largest remaining intact prairie grove in the state of Illinois and portions have been dedicated as a National Natural Landmark. We have a nationally recognized nature play area called Imagination Grove. It can be accessed from our main parking lot by walking west toward the covered bridge. By taking the yellow trail from the main nature center lot, you can enjoy an approximately 1 mile trail that ends in Imagination Grove.
