Shawnee Mission Park South Shore Trail

Shawnee Mission Park is a 1,600-acre park featuring a 120-acre lake and a variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Activities range from fishing, kayaking, picnicking, swimming, archery, disc golf, hiking, mountain biking and more. South Shore Trail is 6.5 miles long from end to end and consists of three separate loops that are connected at various points near three parking lots and passes close to an off-leash dog area. Or you can park at each lot and do that corresponding loop for a shorter hike. The trail is flat but rocky in areas, so wear sturdy shoes and watch the littles in case they trip. Dogs are allowed on the trail but keep them on them as it’s a moderately trafficked trail. Carry bug spray in the summer as there are lots of mosquitoes and ticks on the trail. After a rain, the trails get very muddy so unless you want to trudge through some thick mud, you might consider turning back and trying another day.
