1. PLACES / SHAWNEE MISSION PARK ORANGE TRAIL
Shawnee Mission Park is a 1,600-acre park featuring a 120-acre lake and a variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Activities range from fishing, kayaking, picnicking, swimming, archery, disc golf, hiking, mountain biking and more. Orange Trail is a 2.3-mile moderately trafficked trail shared between walkers, hikers and mountain bikers. The trail is relatively flat but has rooty in some areas, and dogs are allowed on the trail but keep them on a leash. Because mountain bikers share the trail, be alert around corners and step aside to let them pass first. After a rain, if the trails are muddy, the trails are closed, so call the park hot line to make sure the trails are open before you head out. If you want to extend your hike, add on the Violet Trail for another 2.2 miles and the Red Trail for 6 miles.
