Scuppernong Trail - Red Loop

The Scuppernong trail system is located on County Highway ZZ just east of Highway 67 north of the Village of Eagle, are open to hikers. There are three color-coded loop trails ranging from 2 to 5 miles. The Scuppernong area provides convenient parking, water and a vault toilet. The trails have a nice rolling characteristic through hardwood forest and pine plantations. Bikes are not allowed on this trail system. The Red Loop is an intermediate loop that is 2.3 miles long. It is a short and narrow trail with some steep terrain. You’ll pass through pine plantations and hardwood forest. This trail is doable with established walkers and older children, but recommend bringing a child carrier for early walkers or young children. There are some portions of the trail with steeper terrain, please be aware of this. All trails in this system have the same trailhead, be sure to follow the RED trail markers to stay on this loop. You can extend your hike with intersecting points of the other loops if you choose, but be sure to bring your map. Recommend checking out the observation loop at Trail Marker S8, it will only add a short distance onto the over all trail loop. The observation loop is a lollipop trail, and has a nice bench and overlook onto the surrounding Kettles. There is a neat tree and some rocks for children to play on and around.
