1. PLACES / REEDY CREEK NATURE PRESERVE - NATURE CENTER
The Dragonfly Pond Trail is a 1 mile loop at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve that starts from the parking lot of the Nature Center. It is a moderate crushed gravel/natural trail hike with some elevation changes. This trail is also great for any pace. I love that once you step beyond the large rock at the edge of the parking lot you are immediately surrounded by the forest. There are benches along the trail and at multiple pond access spots if you need to take a break. The pond access points are great for little ones to play at the waters edge and possibly see some wildlife. This trail is also part of the TRACK trail system from North Carolina State Parks. Just beyond the trailhead is a sign with a map and misc. brochures for the kids to take along on their hike.

Helpful Trail Information

Lake, Natural Play Area, Picnic Area, Playground, Shaded Hike, Viewpoint, Visitor Center, and Wildlife Viewing The parking lot is adjacent to the Nature Center, natural play area and the playground which is currently being remodeled. There are also two other playground areas within the nature preserve. Another highlight in the park is the Panthers NFL Play60 course. The trail itself is probably 90% shaded, with some great spots for pond access to fish, play or just sit and nature watch.
