Redwood Grove - Carbon Canyon Regional Park

Carbon Canyon Regional Park boasts the largest Redwood Grove in Southern California! The trees aren’t quite as tall as you might find in Northern California, but it’s amazing they grow at all in the often dry SoCal climate. This area is a great short hike, especially for toddlers. There are two trailheads for the Redwood Grove: in the neighborhood above them or from the last parking lot in Carbon Canyon Regional Park. The distance from the park trailhead is about 1.5 miles but mostly flat and great for strollers. This trail guide is for the trailhead beginning in the neighborhood. It can be done with a stroller, but be forewarned there is a short, steep hill from the horse trail to where the Redwoods are. At the corner of Red Pine Rd and Valley View Circle, you will see the beginning of a horse path. Follow the path as it begins a gradual downhill towards Carbon Canyon. The trail will come to a T intersection; turn right and go down the stepped hill. You have arrived! We usually enjoy following the trail in a loop around the redwoods, read all the signs, play with/near the water fountain (it is somewhat unique), and follow the fenced path through the middle of the grove. Return the way you came.
