A large free gravel parking lot at the corner of Brock Street and Tunnel Avenue, with access to the paved Brock Trail. The Brock Trail heads south and downhill to the Railway Tunnel and Blockhouse Island or west to Park Street. There are no facilities at the parking lot, but Tim Hortons is just down Brock Street.

Trail Length/Type

The tunnel is 0.5 km long and paved. A paved trail and sidewalks continue at the south end of the tunnel and around Blockhouse Island. The tunnel is closed in the winter. Cell phones do not always have reception while in the tunnel; otherwise reception is excellent.

Helpful Trail Information

The parking lot at the north entrance is gravel. The trail to and through the tunnel is paved. The trail down to the tunnel is a bit steep. The tunnel is cool and damp at all times. It is closed during the winter. The tunnel floor can be slippery in areas where it is wet.

What baby or child hazards are there on this hike?

Tunnel floor can be slippery. Open water near the trail (down a steep slope) at the north entrance and in many places at the south entrance and around Blockhouse Island. Blockhouse Island can be busy with vehicle traffic. Seasonal bathrooms are available on Blockhouse Island (~0.8 km from north entrance parking lot).
