1. PLACES / PRAIRIE WOLF PARK
Did you know at one time wolves roamed freely throughout Gaines Charter Township? In an attempt to preserve history for the enjoyment of future generations, the Gaines Charter Township Parks and Recreation Committee established a forty-five acre park that consists of both paved and natural surface trails. In the winter the trails are available for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.   The great thing about this park is that you have several different trail options to choose from. You can stick to the 1-1/2 miles of paved trails or venture out into the woods and prairie to discover 2+ more miles of natural surface trails.  The natural surface trails are all-terrain stroller friendly.   In addition to the small lot by the red barn on Kalamazoo Ave, you can also access the paved trail by the township building on 84th St.

Helpful Trail Information

Boardwalk, Creek / River, Lake, Shaded Hike, and Wildlife Viewing There are large limestone boulders(Dodge Overlook-can be found on the map) placed atop the hill in the center of the park. Kids love to climb and jump on them while overlooking the southern end of the park. There’e also a short boardwalk crossing a pond once you make it across the Gull Prairie. During the warmer months you’ll find plenty of turtles and frogs! Once you arrive back at the barn, there are benches on the south side that make a perfect spot for a snack break or just to rest.
