1. PLACES / NV FARMS & FAMILIES AREA, RANCHO SAN RAFAEL PARK - RENO - NV
The Nevada Farms and Families Area is located in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, next to the Wilbur D. May Museum in what was once the Great Basin Adventure Area (GBA). In 2008, the GBA closed down due to budget cuts from the Great Recession; visitors may still notice the defunct water flume ride and concession stand at the entrance. But many years later, thanks to dedicated and creative parks staff and hundreds of volunteers, the rebranded Nevada Farms and Families Area is full of beauty and fun things to discover! This area of the regional park includes a pollinator garden, community garden, Herman's Pond for fishing and birdwatching, turkeys and chickens, a dinosaur-themed playground, a wooden playground, reservable picnic tables, historic tractors and farm equipment, a Little Free Library, an educational Discovery Room, and grassy open space.

Additional Helpful Information

There are benches, picnic tables, and reservable areas throughout this section of the park. There is a pond with no barrier that could be a hazard to young children. The slide at the dinosaur park launches small children off the bottom, so you may want to stand at the bottom to catch them until you know they can handle it! Dogs must be leashed in this part of the park, but there is a large off-leash dog park area nearby.
