1. PLACES / MCCORMICK WOODS BIG POND VIA DEER PARK
McCormick Woods is a community located within the city limits of Port Orchard that has over 7 miles of trails.  The trails and parks are open to the public.  The community has many trails that can be inter-linked to create longer paths, or turned into shorter walks.  There are three playgrounds that connect to the different trails. Big Pond via Deer Park is one of our favorites.  We usually walk about 1mi, then turn back around and play at the playground.  This trail takes you past a few different ponds, with several benches for little legs to rest on.  Evidence of beavers can be seen near the ponds, by investigating chewed up trees.  We often see great blue heron, hawks, canadian geese, and other birds.  There are lots of nurse logs, tree snags, and moss to study.  Big Pond is stroller-friendly and a favorite for the kids!  There is a portapotty at the park, or bathrooms at the clubhouse down the road.
