1. PLACES / LOCH RAVEN - WARREN POINT
A year round favorite! Park along Poplar Hill Rd at the small dirt lot. Cross over to the Merrymans Mill/Warren Rd parcel of Loch Raven. Walkthrough the metal roadside barriers, and follow the path straight and watch it bend to the right. You’ll shortly come to an intersection. [If you want to take a longer hike, you can turn off to the right and follow this path. It will connect closer to Warren Point, but this hike is not included in the description and total mileage]. Turn LEFT at the intersection and follow this bumpy rocky trail as it descends down to the Loch Raven Reservoir. You’ll be mostly walking amongst Beech and Tulip Poplars for this walk. Once you reach the reservoir, you’ll mostly remain at a level grade. Follow this trail (usually a fallen log or two to climb over) until you reach Warren Point. This is a great view of the Reservoir. It’s also used as a local party spot so be on the watch for any broken glass. This is an out and back hike so just retrace your steps. Do not attempt to find an alternative path from Warren Point straight up (trust me on this I’ve tried) it’s mostly rocks, drops where leaves cover up how far or deep, and the reservoir itself.
