1. PLACES / LOCH RAVEN - MORGAN MILL & FIRE ROADS
Loch Raven has a variety of trails, and this one gives you a taste of it all. This is a longer trail for little legs, so be wise and pack lots of snacks and a carrier. If you have a dog keep it leashed at all times and on a short one too. This trail can be completed in either direction, we just like this one best. Park on Morgan Mill Rd just before intersection of Loch Raven Blvd. Acess the trail head off Morgan Mill Rd about a tenth of a mile from the intersection, it has a wire rope connected to two yellow bollards. Proceed uphill and take the left side of the split. You’ll continue uphill at a nice steady pace for roughly a half mile. Depending on the weather and the season, this section can be chock full of many varieties of mushrooms and lichen. Most of the trees are Beech, Oak and Maple. When the forest opens up at the power transmission lines, make a right and head back into the forest. This next 1/2 mile is fairly straight and wide, and towards the end heads slightly downhill. You’ll see the reservoir off to the left. At about a mile into the hike you’ll be gradually heading downhill, and there’s typically a few fallen logs to stop and take breaks on.  When the trail starts to become rocky and quickly and shortly descends, you’ll pop out onto Loch Raven Drive. On the weekends this road shuts down from 10a-5p Sat & Sun. Cross the road and walk along the reservoir shoreline. Enjoy the abundance of Pines and Big Tooth Aspens and of course…..Canadian Geese. Head back along the path to the same intersection and you have made it!
