1. PLACES / LAKE ROLAND - RED TRAIL
Lake Roland offers a variety of trail options for just about everyone. This trail can be accessed off Falls Road shoulder parking (see below for alternate access options). While it is all terrain stroller accessible it’s bumpy in certain areas, but stays very flat and fairly wide throughout. This trail follows the old train line, so you’ll see remnants along the way. The first portion of the hike wanders next to the Jones Falls. At about 1/2 a mile there’s a 10 foot rock that just begs to be climbed. Continuing along you’ll pass overtop on a bridge of the Jones Falls. If you want to take a closer look, follow the trail just before the bridge down but make sure to follow the correct one as they are working at restabilizing the area. Just after the bridge you’ll reach one mile and for the next 1/2 mile the crisscrossing of many other trail options (yellow, orange, green). This area also has a littering of concrete round “stumps” and timber from the old rail line crossing. At 1.5 miles until it reaches the end (Light Rail tracks) you’ll find yourself surrounded by really fun “Art on the Trail” https://lakeroland.org/art-trail-2/ Turn around at the light rail tracks or continue across and up the steps to the main park area (playground, dog park, and nature center).
