1. PLACES / LAKE ANNA STATE PARK- RAILROAD FORD AND OLD POND TRAILS
These two trails combined are about 2 miles and are both rated as easy hikes. Old Pond Trail is a .2 mile hike that crosses creeks and bridges. There are multiple children’s fishing areas along this trail. As it is close to the beach and parking, there was not much wildlife, but we did spot some minnows in the creek. The Railroad Ford trail winds around a peninsula, and although the trail is rated easy, there are lots of roots that may be difficult for very young hikers to navigate. Our 3.5 year old was able to do it with some hand holding, but our 18 month old stayed in the pack for most of the hike. Note that in windy conditions, the west side of the peninsula may be colder than the east side. There are several places along the Railroad Ford trail to sit on benches or explore by the edge of the lake. The Railroad Ford meets the paved Campground/Glenora trail for an easy trek back to the beach area and parking lot.
