1. PLACES / KINNICKINNICK LOOP
Kinnickinnick trail is rated an intermediate trail in Palmer Park. There are multiple offshoots all named Kinnickinnick, but by sticking to the inner loop the trail is 1.2 miles roundtrip. It is clearly marked and easy to distinguish, even in winter. This trail winds through trees and past rock formations throughout. It starts fairly flat but has a few switchbacks in the middle, especially if you are traveling counterclockwise (easier for little legs than clockwise). There are plenty of opportunities for rock climbing breaks for little ones. We even found a small cave along the trail, but use caution as there was evidence of less responsible park users (broken glass, alcohol containers). In winter, it is highly recommended that you bring traction for your shoes due to icy sections. During warmer months the trail is more or less navigable by an offroad stroller, with the exception of a few rocky sections (ie will need caution, be prepared for an arm workout). Carriers are recommended. This trail is easy enough for a 2 year old (strong walker) to complete on their own feet. Restrooms are seasonal.
