1. PLACES / KAME TERRACE TRAIL
The Kame Terrace trail is an easy 2-mile trail beginning at the Homestead Hollow parking lot by. Open to hikers in the summer and skiers during winter. There are other trails that also use the same starting point, so follow the PURPLE trail markers to stay on the trail. Starting to the trail on the left, you’ll encounter gently rolling terrain through out the entire trail. Recommend a baby carrier for younger walkers and trail is not stroller friendly. Along the hike are several trail makers, it is handy to have a trail map to help guide you along. Once you come to trail marker E20, stay to your right (PURPLE trail marker) to stay on the Kame Terrace Trail and head towards the Butterfly Garden. You’ll see the fenced in Butterfly Garden shortly there after. You can enter the garden through the fence and see several native Wisconsin plants, and depending on the season a variety of butterflies. This is a fun area to go through and learn about native plant species with the kiddos. The rest of the loop is several intersections with other trails in the Forest, just be sure you are staying with the PURPLE trail markers. Along the trail you may even spot a letterboxing box – happy hunting! Other highlights of the park are making a drive or hike up to the Observation tower and climbing to the top for amazing views of the surrounding area.
