1. PLACES / HICKORY NUT FALLS TRAIL
Hickory Nut Falls Trail is an easy 1.5 mile round trip hike located in Chimney Rock State Park. You can get to this trail a few ways. You can park at the top parking lot near Chimney Rock and either walk down the road to the trailhead, or go down the stairs at the lowest wood deck below Chimney Rock. You could also start at the bottom of the park near the entrance and take the Four Seasons trail uphill (strenuous but short), where that trail dead ends is halfway through this trail. The trail is shaded and wide with gentle rolling hills with minimal obstacles in the trail. It’s great for carrying kids or small walking feet. There are some stairs at the very end, so I’d leave the stroller at home unless you’re comfortable leaving your stroller unattended for the last section. The waterfall is gorgeous and very tall! Right before the waterfall is a great place to stop and have a snack break before returning the way you came. Make sure to visit Chimney Rock while you’re there! There are bathrooms, gift shop, and food located at the end of the parking lot hear Chimney Rock. You have to pay to enter Chimney Rock State Park. Make sure to get a map at the pay station.
