1. PLACES / GUNPOWDER SP: (PORTION) MINGO FORKS FROM BUNKER HILL
The entire circuit of the Mingo Forks Trail is ~3 miles loop. Due to the overgrowth of barbers and multiflora rose, I discourage (especially small children) to access certain portions; this write up is only a portion of the whole trail. Park along the shoulder of Bunker Hill Rd just after going under I-83. Enter the woods at the opening on the south side of the road. Follow the blue blazes up a short hill. It will level off and you’ll be surrounded by a huge strand of white pines. Seriously, in the winter this almost feels like stepping into Narnia. Let the kids run wild on this very wide pathway and you’ll notice old archery targets. (Make sure they are not in use) Descend a short hill and you’ll meet up with a stream tributary of the Gunpowder. Follow this flat trail until you intersect with the Ridge Trail (yellow). Turn around and return. You know you’re at the turn around point as it gets VERY muddy, almost washed out, and the elevation requires another steep incline.
