1. PLACES / GOVERNOR DICK PARK- (2) RED RECTANGLE
The Red Rectangle Trail, or Trail 2, is a fairly flat trail to the observation tower. It is a slightly easier walk than the Fire Road, although longer, because it is a gentler rise. The full trail begins at the Pinch Road Parking Lot and loops south toward the education center before making a U turn North. A shorter version of this trail can also be taken by starting at the Environmental Center Parking lot and by following the trail head labeled “To the Tower”.  The trail crosses the fire road twice, take take the second crossing/access point to go to the tower. (see the Tower Map for clarification). This trail is considered “Moderate” for hikers and “Easy” for bikers. This is due to the distance, it is less steep than the Fire Road Trail to the Tower. There are short unblazed/unmanaged trails marked with sign posts “2B” as a “short cut” to the tower just past the one mile point, these are fairly steep but manageable for most hikers.
