1. PLACES / FORT TRUMBULL - NEW LONDON - CT
Fort Trumbull State Park offers views of the Long Island Sound from it's paved walking paths winding around the fort. There is a large, well-maintained grassy field for running around and having picnics. While you can access the grounds any time during daylight hours, if the fort is open, there is a small museum and access to climb to the top of the fort for an even better view of the water and the city. You will also find access to the Thames River Heritage Park Water Taxi (during its season) and access to a small but beautiful river walk. There is a hidden seafood joint at the end of the river walk called Dockside Seafood. In July of 2025, the city is opening a community center next to Fort Trumbull offering an indoor pool among other amenities.
