1. PLACES / CROWDERS MOUNTAIN STATE PARK - THE PINNACLE TRAIL
The Pinnacle Trail at Crowders Mountain State Park will take you to the highest point in Gaston County, NC at 1,705ft. It is an out and back trail totaling about 4 miles. The trail is a mostly wide natural surface, with some rock areas to cross over and at the very top you climb a little bit of rock to reach the summit. The view from the top is worth every step you take! This trail, marked by an orange circle blaze, is very popular on the weekends and the Visitor Center lot tends to fill up quickly. So, go early or through the week for the best chance at parking. The park lists this as a strenuous hike likely due to the steady elevation of about 800ft and light rock climbing/maneuvering to the summit. However, don’t let that deter you, as I have seen all ages hiking this trail! Please note that at the top there are very steep drop-offs at the edge.
