1. PLACES / CRAGGY GARDENS TRAIL FROM PICNIC AREA
Craggy Gardens Trail is a two mile round trip hike located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This trail has two trailheads, one located at the Craggy Gardens Picnic Area, and one located at the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center. Both trailheads lead up hill to a flat grassy overlook area. You can either start at one end and hike to the other end and then hike back, or hike to the top then turn around the same way you came. The trail is filled with rocks and roots to scramble around, which makes it extra fun for kids! If you’re looking for those famous sweeping Blue Mountain views and blooming rhododendron in June, I’d start at the Visitor Center side. The Visitor Center is quite small and more of a gift shop. The Picnic Area has dozens of tables and a great place to eat a picnic in the shade and run around the grassy areas. There are bathrooms located both at the Picnic Area and Visitor Center.
