This hike makes a loop around all of Cedar Falls park using a combination of unpaved and paved trails. The trail is well kept with minimal elevation gain, making it a great spot for new walkers. The highlight is seeing the old dam along the Reedy River and the rapids beyond, but please be aware that you cannot swim in the Reedy due to pollution.
To find the trail head, go to the very end of the parking lot on the side that has a playground. You will need to walk through the grass and you should be able to see an opening into the woods with a dirt trail. Stay left to keep on the Nature Trail. When you get to the river, go to the right. The trail follows along the river and will eventually turn into the paved River Trail.
The River Trail will take you down past the dam. It is worth getting off the paved path to get a closer look. At the end of the River Trail, you will run into an open area with some informational signs and picnic tables. If you go left from there, you should be able to see a dirt path that will lead you to a big rock for some more great views.
To get back, return up the paved River Trail. About 0.2 miles up you will make a right onto the paved Forest Trail which will take you back to the parking lot.
